Last summer, our friend Patrick asked us to give him a hand decorating and styling his new place. For the style, he requested, "Fresh on fresh on fresh." Sounded good to us.
We started with a handful of inspirational photos that we thought read both masculine and glamourous.

...And then, we brought in our own brand of handmade and craft to create a unique and thrifty space. We kind of got lucky because the walls were already painted these great neutral-yet-dramatic tones, and the cork tile floors were pretty spot-on for our vision. Otherwise, we began with only a TV, a media stand, and some concert posters, and we were able to finish the whole room in under $1,200!

To say that Patrick is into music would be putting it lightly. So, we created a little art by spraypainting thrifted cassette tapes with flat white paint and arranging them in a grid. We made large chart-style art for over his sofa by attaching cheap engineering prints to thin wooden dowels. The art itself is an old photo of a woman looking out over Chattanooga (from which Patrick hails) that we tracked down from the Tennessee State Library and Archive's online repository of photos and divided into a diptych.
We custom sewed all the accent pillows -- mixing up the textures with a black-and-white tribal print, faux fur, leather, and ticking fabric. We recovered an old ottoman that Patrick already had by cutting up and reconstructing one of those super cheap Mexican blankets.
Patrick has an insane collection of concert posters, so we pilfered them to create a tonal gallery wall around his television.

We found the great industrial cart on Craigslist, and added some leather cord to the handles. We crafted the marquee from an oversized paper mache letter from the craft store and a set of cafe lights. Maybe they're a tad overdone, but we still love how this bad boy works in the space.
We created a small dining/desk area for Patrick with a super plain white table and these badass chairs we found on Craigslist. They're vinyl and definitely not vintage, but that doesn't make us love them any less. We might even have a small obsession with them. They're also great because Patrick is definitely an entertainer so the more modular seating the better!
So what do you think? Does it say fresh?
